to me

“Life isn’t about having, it’s about being. When you look for happiness in mere objects, they are never enough. Look around, look within”. Nick Vujicic.

I read an article recently that hit differently. It’s a story of a village far away that was called 1000 mirrors. A small happy little dog decided to take a trip to this village. When he arrived at the place, he bounced happily to the doorway of the house. He looked through the doorway with his ears lifted and his tail wagging. To his great surprise, there were 1000 other dogs wagging their tails happily, he smiled, and 1000 other dogs smiled. He left with gratitude, believing this must be the most wonderful place ever.
Another unhappy dog visited the same place, when he looked through the door, he saw 1000 other dogs staring with a frown, a very unhappy lot. He started growling, and 1000 other dogs growled. He left the place with utter disappointment.

Life gives us a version of what we give it. Energy in, energy out, and vice versa. The difference between the two dogs is that one knew how to turn its situation around. We get what we attract. We are like human transmission towers; we transmit feelings through our thoughts. The first dog knew too well that gratitude turns what we have into enough and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, and confusion into clarity. Gratitude is the healthiest of all human emotions. We must change how we feel and think about things because our thoughts become things. Energy flows where attention goes.

The other day I bumped into a long-time friend in the supermarket, and she bought me something that one could consider petty- a pen, and my heart was full. Friends are like charming gardeners who make our souls blossom. I expressed my appreciation in words, which was kind enough but as we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest form of appreciation is not utter words, but to live by them. Gratitude goes far beyond saying ‘thank you. When we are grateful, we affirm that a source of goodness exists in our lives. It should not only be a reaction to what we want but rather an appreciation of the little things. We should constantly look for good even in unpleasant situations. When was the last time you appreciated a friend who went out of their way to check on you or even save you out of a situation or even the mere fact they are your friends?

Often, we are overcrowded by feelings of hopelessness. Our emotions stall and we are tempted to frown. When we encourage this kind of feeling to persist, we are bound to get utter disappointment like our second dog. Be thankful for difficult times, they make you grow. When we feel this kind of negative energy, we ought to emit a new signal of hopefulness. Gratitude is an antidote to negative emotions, it’s a neutralizer of envy, hostility worry, and irritation. We must learn to listen to the voice within, when it’s more profound than the outer voice, then we’ve mastered our life. Practicing gratitude even in the such situation increases self-awareness. It’s a game changer. If we approach a situation with appreciation, the universe extends the arms of abundance to us. You don’t have to chase extraordinary moments to find happiness- it’s right in Infront of you. Pay attention to how you’ve been practicing gratitude.

Let us all get lost in the forest of gratitude, leaving behind, and never return to the barren cities of greed. Be thankful that you do not have enough of everything you desire, if you did, what would you be looking forward to? If your job gave you all the money you needed, would you still have the desire to work? Life unfolds its goodness in layers. Savor the moments you got like a royal platter. Life has given us spectacular skies and meadows that teach us appreciation. Gratitude, like faith, is a muscle. The more we use it, the more power we have.
