“Regardless of what comes before or what has yet to come, what matters right now is how I choose to respond to the challenge before me. Will I lie down, or will I fight? The choice is mine and I choose to finish strong”.
I once read a story about a group of frogs who were traveling through the woods, and two of them fell into a deep pit. When the other frogs saw how deep the pit was, they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead. The two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump up out of the pit with all their might. The other frogs kept telling them to stop, that they were as good as dead.
Finally, one of the frogs took heed to what the other frogs were saying and gave up. He fell and died.
The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again, the crowd of frogs yelled at him to stop the pain and just die. He jumped even harder and finally made it out. When he got out, the other frogs said, "Did you not hear us?" The frog explained to them that he was deaf. He thought they were encouraging him the entire time. Interesting huh!
This reminded me of a phrase I read about being strong, “you never know how strong you are until being strong is the only option you got. I mean, the two frogs were both in a quagmire, and at some point, they didn’t know what they really wanted but one of them knew that finishing strong was the only option he got. He could have decided like the other one that enough is enough, there was no need to attempt further and choose to die too. Sometimes, life goes wrong as it changes with the seasons but giving up is not an option. Some situations in our lives get murky and slippery rendering us utter confusion. Every day you face hurdles, small, big, few, or many but life is about overcoming them all.
Therefore, as you journey on towards the finish line, keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions, small people always do that, and supportive people call you to the task. Life is a journey, and you need a battalion of friends who psyche you up. Finishing strong requires a clear mind, ferocious concentration, and fanatical execution. The exact mentality of a runner who sprints forth to the finish line or a boxer looking for a knockout.
We do not win at life because we are well experienced, but because, what we need to do is what we have been doing all year long. We’ve cultivated a strong habit of small wins repeatedly. Winners make a habit of manufacturing their own positive expectations in advance of that event. Furthermore, finishing strong is a high-performance achievement across all aspects of life.
Be the second frog in your race. You are the hero and your own content creator. Show the world the quality of your character by letting go of the small annoyances. Those little things that defocus you from your goals end up sucking your mental bandwidth and leave you feeling incomplete. Get rid of all the physical and emotional clutter therein. Some of us have carried burdens that do not even concern us. When will you ever get time to reconnect with yourself when you have baggage right, left, and center? Do not sweat the small stuff. Show the world the strength of your resolve and the size of your heart by tackling issues end to end. Pending issues and procrastination sucks. Hold the bull by its horns and have meaningful conversations with people who matter. Bring out tough topics and solve the puzzle. Every day there are 1440 minutes and those are opportunities to create a new impact.
Remember, the end justifies the means. How you rock your world is shown by the results you deliver. Keep moving and keep rowing that boat in the right direction. The journey will be stormy, and no one ever promised a smooth ride. What matters is how you maneuver through the storm. To the cheerleaders in life, be careful of what you say. Speak life to those who cross your path. The power of words... it is sometimes hard to understand that an encouraging word can go such a long way. Do not rob people's appetite to live through your insensitive words!
